5-21-15 ripon cookie plant closing-county board chair react

todayMay 20, 2015

The Fond du Lac County Board chairman and member of the Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation board says he was surprised that ConAgra planned to close a cookie plant in Ripon.  County board chairman, Marty Farrell, lives in Ripon.  Farrell says a large corporation such as ConAgra probably has no idea the history or legacy of the company that was founded in Ripon more than 80 years ago.  “It was sold to a multi-national corporation and then resold to another one so these decisions are made by suits in far away places and it has a heavy impact,”  Farrell told WFDL news.  Farrell says fortunately for the community there are other businesses and industries that are thriving.  “Speed Queen, Alliance Laundry, they have big ads in the newspaper every week.  They are hiring and they are expanding.”
