AAA projects 37.2 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more from home during the Memorial Day holiday weekend. State AAA spokesman Nick Jarmuscz says that’s a 4.7 percent increase from the 35.5 million people who traveled last year and the highest travel volume for the holiday in 10 years. In Wisconsin nearly 781,000 people will be traveling for the holiday weekend, a 4.9 percent increase from 2014. While gas prices have been increasing in recent weeks, prices are still almost a dollar less than last year at this time.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
