The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is reminding the public to be safe during this July 4th weekend. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says every year there are reports across the country of individuals who are injured due to careless use of fireworks. Schmidt says many people do not realize that fireworks are regulated and that any fireworks are illegal to possess and or use without a permit. The general rule of thumb is that if the device explodes or leaves the ground you must have a permit from your local village, city, or township.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
