7-10-15 high speed chase demonstrates difficult balancing act officers face

todayJuly 9, 2015

An assistant Fond du lac police chief says its fortunate that nobody was hurt during a high speed chase this week involving a carjacking suspect.  The chase reached speeds in excess of 80 miles an hour and ended when the 16 year old suspect struck a light pole on East Johnson Street.  Assistant police chief Steve Klein says whether an officer continues to  pursue a fleeing vehicle or call off the chase is a difficult balancing act.  “Its one of those things where you stop and think what was this kid thinking?  The lives that he put people at risk with,”  Klein told WFDL news.  “Pursuits are an officer’s worst nightmare,”  Klein added.  “All officers will tell you its one of the last things they want to get involved with because of the potential for such danger.  There just so unpredictable.”  Nobody was injured in Wednesday night’s chase.
