BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Department of Justice is helping a sheriff’s office investigate a cold case homicide in which the only clue is a human skull. Jackson County sheriff’s officials say loggers found the skull in a remote wooded area near the Village of Warrens in August 1978. An earring was found near the remains. The remains have gone unidentified for 37 years. Experts estimate the victim is a white man about 28 to 52 years old. A forensic artist has created a computer-generated reconstruction that shows how the victim might have appeared in 1978. Authorities don’t know the victim’s hairstyle, whether or not he had a beard or mustache, whether he wore glasses or the color of his eyes. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
