The Fond du Lac Historic Preservation Commission is expected to seek local historic designation for a deteriorating bridge at Lakeside Park. Community Development director Diane Benson says the plan right now would be to preserve and relocate the historic bow string trusses and build a new structure in its place…rather than restoring the Fountain Island Bridge. “In order to designate we do hold a public hearing once the Historic Preservation Commission feels that the structure is eligible,” Benson told WFDL news. Benson says there are only a handful of bow string truss bridges in the state.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
