As DNR officials work to try to prevent an invasive fish species from getting into Lake Winnebago comes anechdotal reports the round goby may have already entered the system. Fisherman found the round goby below the Neenah Dam last week prompting officials to close the lock until they can determine how widespread the problem is. The DNR’s Lake Winnebago fishery biologist, Kendall Kamke told WFDL news he’s received reports from anglers who say they have caught the round Goby on Little Lake Buttes des Morts. Kamke says it is possible the goby becomes another bait fish for species like bass or walleye, but he says the ecological impact on Lake Winnebago is unknown. The Fox River closure keeps boaters from traveling from Little Lake Butte des Morts to Lake Winnebago and back through the lock system. The northern locks will operate normally.
