9-15-15 illinois man pleads not guilty in death of fdl toddler

A man accused of killing a toddler by standing on top of the child has pleaded not guilty.  Daniel Griffin entered the plea at an arraignment hearing in Fond du Lac County Circuit Court.  Griffin is charged with reckless homicide and child abuse.  The victim’s mother, Airealle Smart also pleaded not guilty to charges of neglecting a child  and neglecting a child causing death.  The incident happened earlier this summer at the Maplewood Commons apartments on  Pioneer Road and Martin Avenue.   Assistant Police Chief Steve Klein says Griffin is accused of standing on top of both infants putting his full weight on them.  Griffin is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on a million dollars cash bond..  Smart is in jail on $150,000 cash bond.
