A Waupun man is in custody following a short high speed chase in the city of Waupun over the weekend. Police Chief Dale Heeringa says an officer clocked the vehicle at 76 miles an hour on Gateway Drive Saturday. As he was being taken into custody the 19 year old man told the officer he was taking the Mitsubishi out for a test drive. The cop gave the young man a test drive to the Fond du Lac County Jail.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
