11-3-15 gun prosecutors

todayNovember 2, 2015

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Legislature’s budget-writing committee is set to consider adding two state Justice Department prosecutors to handle gun cases in Milwaukee.  The DOJ, Department of Corrections and Milwaukee officials struck an agreement in July to improve investigations and prosecution of gun-related crimes. Part of the agreement calls for DOJ to house two assistant attorney generals in the Milwaukee County district attorney’s office to help with gun cases.  The DOJ has asked the Joint Finance Committee to release $220,000 to the agency to hire the two prosecutors and pay them through mid-2017. The committee is set to vote on the request during a meeting Wednesday at the state Capitol.
