A North Fond du lac woman has been convicted of social security fraud. According to court documents 56 year old Marianne Truitt pleaded no contest tn federal court to embezzlement. Investigators say she collected more than $248,000 in benefits for 15 years after her mother died in 1995. Investigators say Truitt initially thought she was entitled to the benefits, based on what her mother had told her, but by 2000, she said she had “an inkling” that she should not be receiving them.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
