EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Several museums in Great Lakes states are holding events for the 40th anniversary of the Edmund Fitzgerald sinking. The 729-foot iron ore carrier went down on November 10th, 1975, in Lake Superior. All 29 crew members died. The Lansing State Journal reports that the Michigan State University Museum has an exhibit called “Iron Hulls and Turbulent Waters.” Exhibits and events also are planned at other museums in the state and Toledo, Ohio. The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum in Whitefish Point hosts a memorial on November 10th each year. The museum displays the bell of the wrecked ship. It will toll 29 times, once for each crew member and a 30th for all lost on the Great Lakes. Events also will be held at museums in South Haven and Detroit.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
