A Ripon man has been convicted on amended charges in connection with a fatal car versus motorcycle accident in Fond du lac County last summer. At a plea and sentencing hearing in Fond du Lac County circuit court Travis Hartman was issued a citation for failure to yield resulting in death and pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of negligient operation of a motor vehicle resulting in death and reckless driving causing death. He was initially charged with homicide by negligient operation of a motor vehicle. Fond du Lac Judge Peter Grimm placed Hartman on probation for two years with 60 days in jail. He was also ordered to pay nearly $1700 in fines plus court costs and $7000 in restitution. His driver’s license was suspended for a year and he was ordered to perform 100 hours of community service. Before the sentence the father of the victim told the court he forgave Hartman. According to a criminal complaint Hartman was driving a a vehicle on Highway 44 in the town of Ripon when he looked down to change the radio dial and struck a motorcycle in front of him. The motorcycle operator died at the scene.
