Christmas will be made a little merrier for many families thanks to the generosity of the Fond du Lac community and Salvation Army. The 125th annual Fond du Lac Salvation Army Christmas distribution day was held this week at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds. Salvation Army’s Ron Jacobson says 700 families, or more than 2100 individuals were able to receive Christmas gifts and food for the holiday. Meanwhile, Jacobson says the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign is only slightly over halfway toward their goal with a week to go before Christmas. If you would like to volunteer to man a kettle this weekend, contact the Fond du Lac Salvation Army.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
