GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — A judge has rejected a new trial for one of the five men still incarcerated for killing a Wisconsin paper mill co-worker in 1992. Retired Judge James Bayorgeon on Wednesday denied Keith Kutska’s bid for a new trial. Kutska’s attorneys argued that the theory that the victim, Tom Monfils, killed himself was not properly argued at the original trial. Bayorgeon, who presided over the trial, concluded there were no grounds fora retrial. Kutska was one of six men convicted of killing Monfils, whose body was found in a paper vat at the former James River paper mill in Green Bay. The conviction of one of the six, Michael Piaskowski, was overturned by a federal court and he was released.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
