Two ice fishermen are rescued after they became stranded on Lake Poygan. Winnebago County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Kroncke says a 911 call came in around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday from an individual who stated he and another man was stranded about three quarters of a mile off Noffke’s boat ramp. Kroncke says the pair had gone out Monday afternoon but due to changing weather conditions were unable to return to shore. Police launched a Husky airboat and were able to rescue the men. Kroncke says no one was injured; however the ATV the two used had to remain on the ice until it could be removed. The Winneconne Poygan first responders and fire district assisted at the scene.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
