Republican U.S. senator Ron Johnson was on the campaign trail in Fond du Lac Friday. Johnson made a stop at Brenner Tank where he met with employees and toured the facility. Earlier Friday Johnson, chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released a report on the impact of federal regulations on the economy. Johnson says one of his priorities as chairman has been to improve the regulatory process. Johnson faces a challenge from Democrat Russ Feingold, the man he beat for the seat in 2010.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
