Students at Fond du lac High School had to spend a few minutes outdoors in the bitter cold, many without a jacket, after the fire alarm sounded Monday. School District health and safety program coordinator Marian Sheridan says a student apparently pulled a fire alarm as a prank. ‘This is a dangerous situation. We take fire alarms very seriously, and as the law requires us to do we have to evacuate,” Sheridan told WFDL news. “…having children being put outside to the exposed weather is a concern.” Sheridan estimates the students were outside for no more than about five minutes before it was determined to be safe and they were able to go back inside.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
