Waupun Memorial Hospital has announced construction will begin next month on a multi-million dollar expansion project. The $23 million project involves a two story, nearly 53,000 square foot addition on the northside of the hospital. Waupun Memorial Chief Operating Officer DeAnn Thurmer says the new patient building will feature 21 inpatient rooms, including 15 medical/surgical rooms, three intensive care rooms and three Labor/delivery/recovery rooms. Thurmer says each room will also feature a 42 inch interactive television. Work will involve relocating the hospital’s helipad and demolishing the former Waupun Area Clinic building.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
