MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Republican co-chairs of the Legislature’s budget committee say a new tax revenue forecast shows “Wisconsin is on solid ground.” Sen. Alberta Darling and Rep. John Nygren released a joint statement Wednesday in reaction to the report from the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau. The report shows the state will collect nearly $455 million more than projected in November.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
