Governor Scott Walker highlighted his proposed K-12 budget during a stop in Oakfield Thursday. The governor is proposing $649 million in new state aids for public schools and an increase in per pupil aid by $509 million. The governor says the Oakfield School District is estimated to receive approximately $7.36 million in funding from the state under the proposed budget including an increase of $288,000 in per pupil aid and $109,000 in sparsity aid.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
