One newcomer and an incumbent are victorious in the race for Fond du lac School Board. Challenger Monica Walk received the most votes with 2,275 votes. “I am stunned and delighted,” Walk told WFDL news. “…and really, really honored that so many people believe in me and that they heard how much I want to listen and how much I want to make sure we have a strong public school system in our city.” Incumbent Mark Strand was re-elected with 2,441 votes. Dan Sitter finished with 1,576 votes and Greg Freiherr received 1,246 votes.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
