5-10-17 fdl county fair officials say tickets sales for nugent concert jump following letter to the editor

The director of the Fond du Lac County Fair says ticket sales for the Ted Nugent concert have spiked since a local organization wrote a letter to the editor last week asking the Fair Board to drop the politically incorrect rock n roller from  its grandstand line-up.   The issue exploded on social media after the group United for Diversity asked the fair board to cancel Nugent’s concert.   United For Diversity Board president Tracy Abler says the group is concerned about racist and homophobic comments that Nugent has made.   “One of  board members is Native American and there was a lot of talk about the comments he made toward the Native American people, “unclean vermin, they don’t qualify as people.”  Just a lot of horrific things,”  Abler told WFDL news.  Fair director Matt Immel says Nugent has performed at the fair several times in the past with no problems or protests. “This will be his fifth appearance at the Fair and we’ve never had an issue with him, we’ve never had an issue with the crowds being unruly,”  Immel told WFDL news.   Immel says Nugent was booked months ago and says the fair would lose that money if his show was cancelled now.  Abler says her biggest concern is that there are residents in the area who agree with some of the things Nugent says.  Immel says he is open to meeting with United Diversity after this year’s Fair to discuss the issue.
