The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office is releasing new information regarding a hit and run injury crash in front of Schmitty’s Oar House restaurant on Winnebago Drive last month. Initially witnesses say the victim was struck by an SUV while crossing the road to a parking lot. But Sheriff’s captain Ryan Waldschmidt says with the help of a local automobile repair shop, detectives were able to determine small pieces of a broken passenger side headlamp lens came from a 2009-2017 Ram half-ton pickup truck. Waldschmidt says additional witnesses have come forward to say they saw a metallic colored pick-up truck with a topper leaving the parking lot just prior to the incident. The driver was described as a male in his 30s wearing a camoflauge baseball cap. Armed with this new information, Waldschmidt says detectives are intensifying their investigation. “We’ve worked with the restaurant, some of the employees there who may know regular patrons,” Waldschmidt told WFDL news. “Now that we know the make and model year of the vehicle we’re looking for we’ve run lists through DOT of every Ram pickup that’s been registered in Fond du Lac County and we’re working our way through that list.” The Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with additional information to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 920-929-3390. They can also report anonymously by calling the Fond du Lac County Law Enforcement Tip Line at 920-906-4777.
