The League of Women Voters of Wisconsin says lawmakers should scrap plans for a constitutional convention. The state Assembly is scheduled to vote Tuesday on proposals calling for a constitutional convention to add a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. constitution. League of Women Voters of Wisconsin director Andrea Kaminski says it’s a dangerous path to take. “We totally respect the concerns people have about the federal deficit, but enacting a constitutional amendment that requires a federal balanced budget is the wrong way to do it,” Kaminski told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program. Fond du Lac Republican state representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt says he will vote in favor of the measure.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
