Eight former standout athletes are being inducted this weekend into the Fond du Lac High School Athletic Hall of Fame. The late Stan Gores is the first posthumus inductee. Gores was a 1940 Fond du Lac High School graduate and longtime Fond du Lac Reporter sports editor. Gores’ son, Paul, says his dad was the first Fond du Lac High School basketball player to earn four letters. “He was kind of a humble guy, he would never brag about it,” Gores said. “As a boy I didn’t know he was that great of an athlete until I found his scrapbook one time and saw all these clippings where they referred to him.” Gores says the family is “really thrilled” that his father is being recognized among the very best athletes ever to have played in athletics at Fond du Lac High School. Event organizer, Joe Guyette, says the 2017 inductee presentations will be made at halftime of Friday night’s Fond du Lac-Kimberly football game with ceremonies at a banquet Saturday night. Guyette says the 1987 state championship football team is also being inducted into the Hall of Fame. “Jim Bond was the head coach and we have, last I knew, about 30 of the players coming back.” Other inductees include 2006 graduate Shannon Berndt Vogds, 1976 graduate Tom Diener, Sara Senn…2004 graduate, Jason Lettau…2002 graduate, 1996 grad Mike Roloff, and 1988 graduate Steve Holz. Longtime Cardinal play by play announcer and 1944 graduate Joe Goeser is the first contributor inductee.
