The Fond du Lac School Board has approved a preliminary 2018 School district budget. Superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert says the state budget approved by the legislature’s Jt. Finance committee last week and up for a vote in the full legislature this week will help the district balance its budget with raising the tax levy. “What that means for the local budget is that for the second consecutive year the local property tax levy should decrease,” Sebert told WFDL news. The school board is expected to give final budget approval in October.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
