Fond du Lac police are searching an area on the city’s west side after receiving a report of an attempted robbery. A woman told officers that shortly after 8:30pm Thursday she stepped outside Friar Tuck’s restaurant on West Johnson Street for a cigarette when a man pointed a rifle at her and asked for her cellphone. She described the person as a black male wearing a mask. About 20 minutes later police received a report of a masked black male running south near the Courtyard apartments on Peters Avenue. Police searched the area and called in a Sheriff’s K9, but did not locate any suspect.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
