The Fond du Lac Police Department says they are opposed to a proposal that would allow a Fond du Lac grocery store to sell alcohol online. Pick n Save’s ClickList program would allow customers to groceries, including alcohol Online for pick-up in designated parking stalls in the parking lot. Assistant police chief Steve Klein says a person who purchases alcohol Online would have to type in their driver’s license number and present their license to a clerk when they go to pick it up. “This is a unique concept to Wisconsin. We have not seen this in the past,” Klein told WFDL news. Klein says part of a beverage servers’ responsibility is to assess the individual purchasing alcohol. He says it also may be difficult for the store clerk to get a good look at the driver’s license outside, depending on the lighting and says police are concerned it could result in the sale of alcohol to underage persons. A Roundy’s Supermarket spokesperson says about a dozen employees would be trained to be shoppers. They would be at least 18 years of age and hold a bartender’s license. The Fond du Lac Alcohol and Licensing committee recommended approval at their meeting last week.
