The Fond du lac city manager says the city is committed to helping fund a staffed security checkpoint at the government center even though no money is included in the proposed budget. The Fond du Lac City council adopted the 2018 budget at their meeting Wednesday night. City manager Joe Moore says the city will shift some resources in the budget to pay the city’s portion of the $250,000 project. Moore says hopefully a security checkpoint would deter or prevent someone from trying to bring a weapon into the building. “What we’re talking about here is an insurance policy,” Moore told WFDL news. “You hope that in the best case people would potentially say that I’m glad you have it, but I’m glad you don’t really need it.” Meanwhile, Moore says the budget continues to focus on driving down the city’s overall debt. One of the big ticket items is funding for a new police/ fire training center.
