The Red Cross says a statewide blood shortage is getting worse. Laura McGuire with the American Red Cross Wisconsin chapter says in the last week the winter blood shortage has reached a critical level. “What that means is that blood and platelets are being distributed to hospitals faster than they are coming in the door,” McGuire told WFDL news. McGuire says more than 550 blood drives were forced to cancel this month causing over 16,500 donations to go uncollected. For information on a blood drive near you log onto redcrossblood.org.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
