Fond du Lac residents come together this weekend, to host what has quickly become a region-wide midwinter classic. The third annual Sturgeon Spectacular is underway. Craig Molitor with the Fond du Lac Area Convention and Visitors Bureau says this winter celebration features events inside, outside, on and off the ice and is rooted in the often quirky traditions of Sturgeon Spearing, unique to this region. Crowds will enjoy Ice Kiting events on the frozen surface of Lake Winnebago as well as several events at Lakeside Park and Fond du Lac’s downtown district. Highlights include a kick-off parade starting with The Running of the Sturgeon, live musical performances, ice carving and snow sculptures, comedy shows, and the hilarious “Guys on Ice” Broadway-style musical.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
