2-10-18 sturgeon spearing season

todayFebruary 10, 2018

Thousands of sturgeon spearing shanties dot Lake Winnebago this weekend for the opening of the sturgeon spearing season.  DNR senior fisheries biologist Ryan Koenigs says the sturgeon population in Lake Winnebago is healthy.  “There’s definately a lot of fish out there.  We’ve got roughly 19,000 adult females and 24,000 adult males,”  Koenigs told WFDL news.  Koenigs says the season is expected to last the full 16 days because of poor water clarity.  “We checked at more than 20 locations on Monday and  we had an average of six and half feet of visibility.”
