MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Department of Natural Resources confirms that a Wisconsin homeowner captured video of a cougar near their home. A surveillance camera captured the big cat walking outside a Washington County home last week. The DNR says the cougar was likely traveling through. Despite a handful of recent sightings, the department said cougar sightings are rare in Wisconsin. Wildlife experts say cougars dispersing into Wisconsin likely originate from the Black Hills of South Dakota.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
