Sauk County circuit judge Michael Screnock says he is the only judicial conservative in the race for the state supreme court. Screnock is squaring off in the Tuesday primary election against Madison attorney Tim Burns and Milwaukee County circuit judge Rebecca Dallet with the top two vote getters advancing to the April election. Screnock says he will not legislate from the bench. He says there’s a very clear distinction between being politically liberal or conservative and being a judicial conservative. “I have said from day one that I am a judicial conservative, but that’s very different from what my poilitical leanings might be,” Screnock told AM 1170s Between the Lines program. Screnock says the fact that the Republican Party has donated more than $100,000 to his campaign shouldn’t be a surprise. “Both of my opponents are actively campaigning on the political issues that they hold dear and my campaign welcomes support and assistance from any individuals or groups that feel strongly about having an impartial court.” Screnock was a guest on AM 1170s Between the Lines program.
