A Waupun business is changing its business model thanks to a grant from Fond du Lac County’s IGNITE! Business Resource Network. For years Rock River Eyewear, formerly Jans Optical, has offered eye exams or contact lens refills, but city administrator Kathy Schlieve says when the optometrist moved out of state, the business turned to the city for advice. Schlieve says instead of recruiting a new optometrist, Rock River decided instead to become an eyewear retail and repair store. Rock River Eyewear no longer offers eye exams or contact lens refills but, instead, fills eyewear prescriptions from any optometrist office.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
