A Reedsburg man has been convicted of sexually assaulting children in Fond du Lac. Thirty five year old Thomas Stuewer pleaded no contest to one count of first degree sexual assault of a child and three counts were dismissed and read into the record. The plea avoids a trial that was scheduled to begin this week. If he had been convicted on all four charges he would have faced a maximum life prison sentence. Police say Stuewer sexually assaulted three girls, ages five and six. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 9.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
