This is tornado and severe weather awareness week in Wisconsin. Residents are encouraged to test their emergency plans during statewide tornado drills this Thursday. National Weather Service meteorologist Sean Miller says a mock tornado watch will be issued at 1pm followed by a mock warning at 1:45pm. Another mock tornado warning will be held at 6:45pm. Miller says fortunately most of the 23 tornado touchdowns in the state last year were less powerful EFO or EF1 tornadoes. An EF3 tornado was recorded on May 16 last year. There was an outbreak of 10 tornadoes on June 14, across Shawano, Winnebago, Outagamie, Brown and Waushara counties.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
