A new county highway garage and government center security are the top issues facing the county in 2019. County executive Al Buechel says the massive new highway garage is being built off Hickory Road near the 151 Bypass. “Its well underway and it will also provide a (shooting) range for the Sheriff’s Department,” Buechel told WFDL news. Buechel says a new manned security checkpoint will be up and running at the government center this spring.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
