The World Ice and Snow Sailing Championships are returning to Lake Winnebago for the fourth annual Sturgeon Spectacular in February. Fond du lac Convention and Visitors Bureau director Craig Molitor says the event brings in competitors from across the globe. The Sturgeon Spectacular is held February 5-10 in conjunction with the sturgeon spearing season…featuring a snow sculpting competition…and new this year…curling. Event organizers are hoping to draw over 30,000 people to the community for the festival. The Fond du Lac city council last night approved the sale of alcoholic beverages at Lakeside Park during the event.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
