1-15-19 republican legislative leaders to meet privately with evers

todayJanuary 15, 2019

Wisconsin Republicans are meeting privately Tuesday  with Democratic governor Tony Evers in an effort to find areas where they think they might have some common ground.  The meeting comes after the GOP lawmakers last week delivered a letter to the governor in what they called “a gesture of goodwill.”    Fond du Lac Republican state senator Dan Feyen will be among the lawmakers meeting with the governor.  “I am looking forward to it.   I think in this new environment we’re working in we need to be talking with the governor more regularly,”  Feyen told WFDL news.    Feyen says areas up for discussion could include an income tax cut,  school funding,  and high speed internet access.   The move comes after Republicans convened a lame duck legislative  session following Evers’ November defeat of Republican Scott Walker to weaken the powers of the incoming Democratic governor and attorney general before they took office.
