A U.S. Forest Service research biologist says scientists are hopeful  of development of an EAB resistant variety of ash tree in the next several years.  The Emerald Ash borer has devasted ash tree populations in a number of states and threatens Wisconsin’s ash trees.  Research biologist Rob Venette says there is promise in  an EAB resistant ash variety.  But Venette says it could be several years before these trees are ready for planting.   “Seeds from those trees have been collected and are currently being evaluated and its very promising,”  Venette told WFDL news.  Meanwhile, Venette says the good news is last week’s record bitter cold temperatures will  kill off at least half of the invasive Asian beetles in Wisconsin.
