Greg Giles says he’s leaving the Fond du Lac city council with mixed emotions. Last week’s meeting was Giles final meeting as a councilmember. “Its been a pleasure serving the city of Fond du Lac,” Giles told WFDL news. “…when I got into this conversation five years ago I underestimated the need for people to come in and have a voice and listen and its just been real honor. What a great community.” Giles is stepping down after two terms. He is leaving Fond du Lac at the end of the month after accepting a job at the Greater Houston YMCA.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
