The Waupun Fire Chief says its fortunate that nobody was hurt in a fire this week that significantly damaged the bottom unit of a duplex. Firefighters were called to the scene on West Franklin Street Monday night. Fire chief B.J. DeMaa says there were no working smoke alarms in either unit. DeMaa says the cause of the fire remains under investigation. DeMaa says the fire is not believed to be suspicious in nature.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
