6-14-19 voters who move

todayJune 14, 2019

The Fond du Lac County Clerk says Fond du Lac County got an early jump regarding voter registration for voters who appear to have moved.  In 2018, when postcards were first sent,  more than 300,000 voters had their registrations deactivated within a month.   Many showed up to vote only to be told they had to register again.  County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says Fond du Lac County contacted those voters to see if they had moved and needed to re-register.  “We noticed it at the February 2018 election and right away the state did get a lot of complaints,”  Freiberg told WFDL news.  “In Fond du Lac County we took the extra initiative and we actually contacted voters and asked them if they had moved.”   Freiberg says voters who appear to have moved will still receive a postcard, likely in late August.  “When people receive that postcard in the mail they really need to look at it and make sure the information is accurate on it.  That is where we find a lot of our problems.”   The Wisconsin Elections Commission voted this week to give voters who appear to have moved within the state up to two years to update their voter registration rather than be deactivated within a month.
