6-19-19 trump re-election

todayJune 19, 2019

President Donald Trump captured the Republican Party and then the presidency in 2016 as an insurgent intent on disrupting the status quo. As he mounts his reelection bid, Trump is offering  himself as the outsider once again — a more awkward pitch to make from inside the Oval Office.  Trump made the official announcement Tuesday night in Orlando, Florida that he is running for re-election.  Retired Ripon College political science professor Marty Farrell says the announcement comes amid news of internal surveys by Trump’s own campaign that show former vice president Joe Biden leading Trump in several battleground states including Wisconsin.  “The incumbency is a big advantage and in some ways Trump magnifies that advantage in that he’s a more vocal, uses the bully pulpit more than probably any other president has,”  Farrell told WFDL news.  But the polls in 2016 also showed Trump losing, so why should they matter this time around?  That’s a good question and I think here in Wisconsin the Marquette Law School poll definately was off.  So there is always that question with Trump, people may be hesitant to say they’re going for Trump, but then they may turn around and vote for him.”
