The Fond du Lac County District Attorney says he believes a sentence handed down last week in a fatal traffic crash that killed a father and son was appropriate. Travis Wollersheim was placed on probation with a year in jail and ordered to perform community service. District attorney Eric Toney says Wollersheim wasn’t paying attention when he rear-ended a vehicle that had slowed in a construction zone, killing the driver and his eight year old son. “There were some unique circumstances to this case,” Toney told WFDL news. “The negligience wasn’t texting or using a phone or anything even remotely close to that. It was very poor driving and not paying attention to the road.” Toney says the sentencing hearing was the most emotional hearing he has been involved in as a prosecutor when Wollersheim apologized to the family of the victims. “Tears streaming down as he apologized to the family members and many of them nice things to say to Mr. Wollersheim that they would be praying for him and they forgive him,” Toney said. “The family, many of them got up and one by one hugged Mr. Wollersheim in court and forgave him. It was just a very emotional moment.”
