Two boys got to shore safely after breaking through thin ice on a retention pond at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds. Fire chief Pete O”Leary says it happened shortly after 1:30pm Friday. O’Leary says it’s a reminder for parents to talk with their kids about not playing on the ice on any area retention ponds. The boys were out of the pond by the time firefighters arrived on the scene. They were evaluated at the scene.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
