The Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer says she is pleased the state will be testing for the coronavirus. Kim Mueller says it’s a great opportunity and the turnaround time on testing will be much quicker. The testing will be done at the Wisconsin state lab of hygiene at UW Madison and at the Milwaukee Health Department. Mueller says at this time the state continues to monitor the situation. Mueller says work continues on developing a vaccine, which she says could still be months down the road followed by distribution to states. She says the most vulnerable populations would probably be first in line to receive the vaccine once it becomes available.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
