The Fond du Lac North Main Street reconstruction project from Johnson Street to Merrill Avenue and Merrill Avenue from Macy Street to Portland Street starts Monday. City Engineer Paul DeVries says starting Monday Merrill Avenue from Main Street to Macy Street will be closed to all traffic and remain closed during the project, starting with underground utility work. Starting Monday March 16, Main Street from Merrill Avenue to Johnson Street, and Merrill Avenue from Portland Street to Main Street will close for reconstruction of Main Street. Alternate accesses to businesses in the construction are a will be signed. Patrons are encouraged to use alley accesses that have been upgraded and constructed. The project is scheduled for completion in August.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
